Important changes to Desjardins Credit Cards

Westminster Savings is moving to a new credit card supplier, Collabria, which will allow us to offer members some of the best and most competitive credit cards in the marketplace.

You will automatically receive a new replacement Westminster Savings Collabria Visa card between October 19 and 25, 2018.

You can start activating and using your new card beginning at 4 a.m. on October 28. Your balances, credit limits, reward points and cashback dollars will be transitioned over to the new card once activated. If you have any pre-authorized payments set up, you will need to update them with your credit card details.

Your current Desjardins credit card will stop working on October 28. We encourage you to activate your new card as early as possible on October 28 to ensure uninterrupted coverage.

Conversion

I already have a credit card. What does this change mean for me?

  • You will automatically receive a new replacement Westminster Savings Collabria Visa card between October 19 and 26. This card will be comparable to your current Desjardins credit card, and in many cases will be even better.
  • You can start activating and using your new card beginning October 28. Your balances, credit limits, BONUSDOLLARS and cashback dollars will be transitioned over to the new card once activated.
  • You will need to notify any merchants or companies with whom you have pre-authorized payments of your new card details once you receive your new card.
  • Your current Desjardins credit card will stop working on October 28.

This change will result in some great benefits for cardholders:

  • You will benefit from secure online access to your account making it faster and more convenient to monitor and manage your accounts. You'll have the option to make payments, view transactions and available credit, and check and redeem your rewards.
  • You will have a wider choice of credit cards to choose from than before. Please refer to our product guide for more information.
  • The rewards program is more flexible than before, enabling you to use your points for cashback, merchandise, gift cards, and travel.
  • The friendly and knowledgeable Collabria Cardholder Support team is available to provide assistance to you all day, every day.

When is this happening?

If you already have one of our Desjardins Visa cards, you’ll automatically receive your new Collabria card between October 19 to 26. You will be able to activate and start using your new card on October 28.

Desjardins will stop accepting new card applications on September 14. Collabria will start accepting applications mid-October. If you are interested in applying for a Collabria card, we will take a note of your details and call you back mid-October to process the application.

What cards are available?

Collabria offers a wider choice of cards than our previous supplier. Please refer to our product guide, call our Member Service Centre at 604-517-0100 or visit one of our branches for more information.

What happens to my existing Desjardins credit card account information at conversion?

On October 28, all of your Desjardins account information such as balance details, statements, transaction history and BONUSDOLLARS will automatically transfer to your new Collabria card.

What happens to balances owed to Desjardins?

Any balances owed to Desjardins will be carried over to Collabria on October 28.

Will my credit limit change?

No, your credit limit will stay the same.

Can I request a different credit limit?

Yes, you can but you will need to activate your card first. Once you have activated it, please call Collabria Card Services – the number will be listed on the back of your new credit card.

Will interest rates remain the same?

In many cases the interest rate on the new card will be lower than existing rates but it will depend on the features of the replacement card you are issued. Please refer to our product guide, call our Member Service Centre at 604-517-0100 or visit one of our branches for more information.

What’s happening with my BONUSDOLLARS? Will I lose them? Does Collabria offer a similar cash back, travel or rewards program?

The Collabria rewards program is more flexible than before, enabling you to use your points for cashback, merchandise, gift cards and travel. Your BONUSDOLLARS will be converted into an equivalent amount of points under the Collabria rewards program and transferred to a cardholder’s new Collabria card.

For example, if you currently have 100 BONUSDOLLARS, they will be converted to 10,000 points with the new Collabria card. While the points value appears greater, the value in Canadian dollars remains the same. 100 BONUSDOLLARS = 10,000 Collabria reward points = $100 CDN.

What should we tell customers who call or visit the branch to redeem BonusDollars?

Remind customers that their BONUSDOLLARS do not expire as a result of the conversion, but that they get moved over to Collabria points. If they still wish to redeem their BONUSDOLLARS, please direct them to the Desjardins online portal, AccèsD. (This avoids WSCU having to claw back rewards funds from Desjardins).

If I have a Desjardins Business Cash Back Visa card, what will happen to my cash back rewards upon conversion?

Your cash back rewards will be transferred to your new Collabria No Fee Cash Back Visa. If you have set up an automatic annual payment of your cash back rewards with Desjardins, this will not be transferred automatically to your new card. You will need to use MyCardInfo to set up this automatic payment for your new card.

What are the differences in cash back between the Desjardins Business Cash Back Visa and the Collabria No Fee Cash Back Visa?

The Collabria Cash Back card accommodates the rewards differently from the Desjardins Cash Back card. The Desjardins cards provide a credit to the account once per year. With the Collabria card, the cash back resides in the Rewards account and the member can decide to apply a credit to their account at any time or use the points for other rewards (e.g. travel, merchandise).

Why do Platinum cardholders get converted to the Travel Gold card and can they be moved to the Infinite?

The requirements for the Infinite cards are different from those for the Desjardins Platinum cards, and so customers must re-apply in order to qualify for the Collabria Infinite cards.

For the conversion, Desjardins Platinum cardholders are being moved to the Travel Rewards Gold card, which is a feature-rich card. However, if the customer wishes to be upgraded, staff can submit an application for the Infinite card from October 2 onwards, but it will not alter the card that they are being converted to. The customer will still receive the Travel Rewards Gold at conversion, but can cancel this card and switch to the Infinite once they have been approved.

What happens to cardholders’ insurance coverage for trips booked on the Desjardins card when the trip happens post-conversion?

If a trip is booked on the Desjardins card but the trip occurs after conversion, the card benefits from the Desjardins card will no longer apply. The benefits of their new Collabria card will apply, instead. In many cases, the benefits are similar, but be sure to check the product guide when customers inquire.

However, if the customer purchased additional insurance through Desjardins (outside of the card benefits), this additional insurance would still apply. Any claims during that period of coverage should be submitted to Desjardins as per the terms of the insurance agreement.

If I am currently on paperless billing with Desjardins, will I automatically be paperless with Collabria?

No, customers will have to sign up through MyCardInfo for paperless billing with Collabria. The default at conversion is paper statements.

When will the existing Desjardins card stop working?

Desjardins Visa cards will stop working on October 28.

How long will I be without my credit card?

If you activate your card early on October 28, you should not experience any interruption in your credit card service. You can activate your new card from 4 a.m. that day.

Do I have to use the new card – can`t I just keep using my old one?

No, unfortunately not. You will need to activate your new card as your old card will be deactivated by Desjardins on October 28, 2018.

What will happen if I try to use my Desjardins card after October 28?

Any transactions that take place on October 28, including pre-authorized transactions, will be declined. We encourage you to activate your new card on October 28, including updating any pre-authorized transactions, to prevent any interruption to your credit card service.

Will Desjardins honour transactions for me as I’m out of the country during the conversion?

No, unfortunately not. The Desjardins cards will stop working on October 28.

Can I transition to the new card earlier than October 28?

No. To ensure that your credit card account information such as balance details, statements, transaction history and BONUSDOLLARS automatically transfer to your new card, you will need to wait until October 28 to activate your new card.

Should I keep hold of my old card once it has expired or destroy it?

If you have used your current credit card to book travel or make other reservations where you will need to present your credit card, please keep hold of the expired card. Otherwise, you can destroy it as soon as you have activated the new card on October 28.

What are the key dates I need to be aware of?

mid-October: Westminster Savings will start accepting applications for the new Collabria cards

October 19-26: Current cardholders will automatically receive their Collabria credit cards

October 28: Cardholders will be able to activate and start using their new cards

October 28: Desjardins will deactivate the old credit cards

I recently received a new Desjardins credit card in the mail. Why am I now getting a new Collabria card?

If your old Desjardins card was due to expire recently, you would have received a new one even though the conversion to Collabria is imminent. Your current Desjardins card will be deactivated on October 28, 2018, so we encourage you to activate the new credit card sent to you by Collabria on October 28.

Will my card number and PIN be the same as my current card?

No, your new card will have a new number and PIN. This means that if you have set up any pre-authorized payments with merchants or in Online Banking, you will need to update your card details. Your PIN will arrive in the mail a few days after you receive your new card. The card and PIN are sent separately for security reasons.

Can I change my PIN?

Yes, once you have activated your new card, you will be able to change your PIN. Click here for instructions.

What if I don’t receive my new card or PIN by October 28?

At any time on or after October 28, if you haven’t received your new card or PIN, please contact Collabria Cardholder Support at 1 855 341 4643. Once you’ve selected your preferred language, selection option 3 “other card services” and a Collabria representative will assist you.

When will my annual fee be due?

If there is an annual fee on your new card, it will be due at the same time your old card fee was due.

The replacement card I received does not meet my needs. Can I request a different card?

Absolutely, we would be happy to find a card that better suits your needs. There are eight different personal and three different business cards to choose from.

Please refer to our product guide, call our Member Service Centre at 604 517 0100 or visit one or our branches for more information and assistance with choosing a card that meets your needs.

What happens if I pay Desjardins for my credit balance accidentally after conversion?

The payment will reach Collabria through a trailing file sent via Desjardins.

Using the new card

My card did not work when I tried to use it. What should I do?

Please ensure you’ve activated the card before you try to use it. You may need to attempt to use it up to three times before it becomes activated. If you have completed the activation process and it is still not working, please contact Collabria Cardholder Support at the number listed on the back of your card.

Will my pre-authorized payments automatically be transferred to the new card?

No, you will need to contact any merchants you have set up pre-authorized payments with to give them your new card details. We’ve created a card activation guide to assist cardholders with this process.

Once I receive my new credit card, how quickly should I update my credit card pre-authorized payments?

We recommend you update your credit card information for all pre-authorized payments as soon as possible on or after October 28 in order to avoid missing a payment.

Can I access my Collabria credit card online to view statements, transactions etc.?

Yes, you will benefit from secure online access to your account through a portal called MyCardInfo, making it faster and more convenient to monitor and manage your accounts. You'll have the option to make payments, view transactions and available credit, and check and redeem your rewards. You will be able to set up your log in for MyCardInfo once you have activated your new credit card. We will also have a link to MyCardInfo on our website (wscu.com).

What is the best way for to pay my US Dollar Credit Card bill?

Payments made directly from the US Chequing account will be impacted by the exchange rate.

The best way for you to pay your US Card bill is through the Collabria customer portal, MyCardInfo. MyCardInfo can pull payments directly from members’ US accounts as pre-authorized debits or one-time payments in US currency.

Can I pay the US Dollar card from my Canadian-dollar chequing account?

No. US Card bills must be paid from a US Chequing account. The US Chequing account is a requirement for having a US Dollar Collabria Visa card. You can pay your card bill directly from MyCardInfo using your US Chequing account.

Is there a mobile pay feature?

Yes, Collabria offers Apple Pay. Android Pay is under development currently.

Are the items I’ve purchased on my existing card still insured by the insurance coverage on my new Collabria card?

To verify insurance coverage, please review the insurance certificate you will receive with your replacement card. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the insurance provider listed on that insurance certificate.

Generally speaking, for purchase-related benefits such as Purchase Assurance and Extended Warranty, the date the item was purchased dictates which program the claim is processed under.

For travel-related benefits such as CDW, Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption etc. the date the loss occurs determines which program the claim is processed under.

What kind of customer support is in place? Is there a Call Centre and what are its hours?

The Collabria Cardholder Support team is available 24/7 every day of the year.

Please call 1 855 341 4643 for assistance.

How long will Desjardins continue to provide assistance to customers after the conversion?

Desjardins will continue to provide service for a period of time after the conversion to the new credit cards, but we have not yet confirmed the end date for support.
