Sunshine, sports and support for Special Olympics BC

Surrey, B.C. – Thursday, May 29, 2019 — The sun will shine down on the Westminster Savings Credit Union team as they look to battle 27 other teams in a variety of sports including basketball, beach volleyball, soccer, ultimate and more.

The Motionball Marathon of Sport is a Canada-wide event taking place later this month in Calgary, Kingston, Hamilton, Cape Breton and Halifax, while the fun kicks off this Saturday in Burnaby.

Ten co-ed teams will partner with local Special Olympics BC athletes to see which team stands alone after the fun-filled five hour tournament concludes.

Motionball donates 70% of the funds raised from the event to Special Olympics BC, while 25% is donated to Special Olympics Canada and the remaining 5% goes to help grow the #NoGoodWay Campaign aimed at ending the use of the R-word(retard) in everyday conversation.

“We’re extremely proud to be the official community partner of Special Olympics BC. Our support of this Motionball event is a wonderful way to help introduce the next generation of donors, volunteers and sponsors to the Special Olympics movement,” says Westminster Savings community giving manager Nicole Eich. “This is one of our favourite events of the year. Everyone is thrilled to get out and compete with colleagues and local athletes in the name of fun.”

The Motionball Marathon of Sport begins Saturday, June 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the EA Sports Complex.

2019 is the third year of Westminster Savings’ provincial partnership with Special Olympics BC to promote and celebrate the power and joy of sport.
