Westminster Savings super hero team stepping off high-rise tower to raise funds

Six staff, including CEO, to take part in Easter Seals Drop Zone event

Surrey, B.C. – All it takes is a little training, some ropes, harnesses, carabiners, nerves of steel and a desire to support important community causes. Six Westminster Savings staff, including President and CEO Gavin Toy, are channeling their inner super heroes and rappelling down the side of their 25-storey office tower at Surrey Central City at the Easter Seals Drop Zone next Monday, September 16.

Toy says the Drop Zone event is going to be a thrilling experience but he does have one major aspect of concern.

“In terms of my personal involvement in the rappel, as someone with admitted ‘control issues’ I am both excited and terrified at the same time,” says Toy. “I think the first step over the side is going to be extremely challenging. But I couldn’t be happier to support this important cause, and I know the staff rappelling down our building with me feel the same way. Our staff have a long history of going out of their way to support community initiatives and to help make our communities stronger.”

In support of the Westminster Savings team, donations will be matched up to the $10,000 mark by the credit union. Money raised through the 2019 Easter Seals Surrey Drop Zone will support programs that help people living with disabilities address life's challenges and build their self-esteem, self-confidence and sense of independence.

“Easter Seals BC & Yukon is committed to helping improve the quality of life in our communities. It’s our hope that all individuals living with disabilities can live an active life, seek their potential, and contribute to their communities,” says Tracy Lakeman, Interim President and CEO, Easter Seals BC & Yukon. “The best part of our Drop Zone event is that participants get a chance to do the same thing by stepping outside their comfort zone, exploring their potential, and rappelling down Surrey’s Central City. It’s an amazing event to watch and participate in.”
