Westminster Savings Foundation reaches $4 million milestone in grants to community groups

Surrey, B.C.  October 1, 2018 – Question: what’s the best way to generate four million dollars to give to community groups across Metro Vancouver? Answer: start a foundation and build it into one of the largest credit union foundations in Canada.

That’s what Westminster Savings Foundation has done, and this fall the foundation is celebrating reaching a $4 million milestone as it completes another round of grants for community groups that deliver programming for arts and active living.

“Westminster Savings Foundation is thrilled to reach the $4 million mark in donations to our communities, helping to make them healthier, more inclusive places to live,” says foundation president Maury Kask. “It’s a reflection of the importance our credit union places on contributing to our members’ communities in meaningful ways, and to support opportunities for people to enrich and balance their lives, especially for people facing barriers such as cost.”

Since incorporating in 1992, the Westminster Savings Foundation has supported 147 charities. In 2018, the foundation will impact the lives of more than 6,000 people across Metro Vancouver. The foundation has more than $9.2 million in assets, making it one of the largest credit union foundations in Canada and represents Westminster Savings’ longstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility.
