Westminster Savings answers Red Cross BC Fires Appeal with a donation and match of funds

Funding will assist individuals and families displaced by the fires

Surrey, B.C., July 13, 2017 - A donation of $5,000 to the Canadian Red Cross by Westminster Savings Credit Union (Westminster Savings) will assist those impacted by the devastating B.C. wildfires. The credit union will also match donations from its employees and members made through the Red Cross’ Credit Unions of BC donation portal, up to an additional $5,000.

The massive wildfires have triggered evacuations in several communities and resulted in a province-wide state of emergency being declared.

“Our thoughts are with our friends and neighbours who have been impacted by this devastating situation, and our deepest thanks go out to the firefighters, first responders and volunteers for their commitment to supporting the affected families and communities,” says Gavin Toy, President and CEO, Westminster Savings. “We encourage our employees and members to join us in assisting those affected by the wildfires by making a financial contribution directly to the Red Cross.”

Donations can be made online through the Red Cross’ Credit Unions of BC donation portal at www.redcross.ca/BCFires/CreditUnionsofBCandON. Donors should enter Westminster Savings in the My Credit Union Affiliation field to enable the credit union to match the funds. Donations will help provide immediate relief such as cots, blankets, family reunification and financial assistance for food, clothing and personal needs, and may also help re-entry and go towards more long-term recovery, resiliency and preparedness.
