Westminster Savings Funds Artist in Residency Program at Place des Arts

Program engages three professional artists to teach a series of workshops in a variety of artistic disciplines

New Westminster, B.C., December 7, 2015 - Place des Arts arts centre and music school is pleased to announce it has received a $9,000 grant from Westminster Savings to support its 2015/16 Artist in Residence program.

The Artist in Residence program provides no-cost opportunities for local school children and community members to learn through the exploration of various arts practices. Led by local professional artists, the program offers a friendly setting in which individuals are inspired to actively participate in fun, engaging and educational workshops held at Place des Arts, in schools and at local community venues. Three residencies will be supported by the grant in Visual Arts (Nov-Dec 2015), Dance (Jan-Feb 2016) and Fibre Arts (Apr-May 2016).

"We are very grateful to Westminster Savings for their generous support and are excited to partner with them for our 2015/16 Artist in Residence program," says Joan McCauley, Executive Director at Place des Arts. "Westminster Savings has partnered with Place des Arts in the past with a generous 3-year sponsorship of our very successful ArtReach summer outreach camp for children in need. We’re thrilled to have Westminster Savings’ continued support, which enables us to advance our goal of increasing accessibility to the arts for local children, teens and families.”

“Westminster Savings is committed to helping families and individuals in our local communities achieve better balance by increasing access to the arts, so we are very pleased to be partnering with Place des Arts on these artist residencies,” says Gavin Toy, President and CEO Westminster Savings. “This program will help bring the arts alive in an engaging, educational and fun way.”
