Concerts in Care brings music to Queen’s Park Care Centre

New Westminster, BC, November 26, 2014 - Many residents in senior care centres have limited access to offsite arts activities such as concerts and music recitals. Thanks to a grant from Westminster Savings, Concerts in Care is bringing music to the residents of Queen's Park Care Centre.

The Concerts in Care program supports the needs of the residents of Queen's Park Care Centre, many of whom have mobility issues which limits their ability to enjoy offsite activities. The program brings culture and entertainment to them and provides an activity that can be shared by residents and their families.

"It is widely accepted that music offers therapeutic benefits and can profoundly affect one’s mood, emotion and well-being," says Lizz Kelly, Executive Director of Queen's Park Care Centre. "The Queen's Park Healthcare Foundation wishes to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Westminster Savings for its generous donation. These funds will help ensure that the Concerts in Care performances will continue. Residents, their families and staff have all been touched by the joy and inspiration of the performers."

"We recognize the importance of music and the arts in our lives at every age, so we are delighted to be supporting Concerts in Care for Queen's Park Care Centre," says Gavin Toy President and CEO Westminster Savings. "The arts are pivotal to healthy, inclusive communities and enrich the lives of all of us."

Westminster Savings has provided a $5,100 grant to support the Concerts in Care program through its community investment program, Project Better Balance, which provides individuals and families opportunities to engage with the arts and get active.
